Yesterday, I was sitting at the tail end of the show, shoes kicked off, giving my feet a break, when I spied Carol Duvall across the way in the lobby of the convention center, with an intense look on her face. I *knew* I should have resisted the temptation to run up and bother her . . . but, I just couldn’t . . . heavy sigh . . . Daven probably had quite a laugh, watching me sprint across the hall to get to her . . . .
“Miss Duvall!” I gushed out, breathlessly, and as I reached out to shake her hand and she clasped it, her face was very alarmed, so I stopped blathering like an idiot about my admiration of her to listen to her . . .
“I am in a state of distress! I must get upstairs–will you be here for the next few minutes? Will you watch my friend’s bag for me for just 5 minutes????”
I could tell she was in a state of panic, and of course, I would do anything to be of service to my craft hero. I did as instructed, clutching the handle of the suitcase, standing there in my bare feet.
Daven walked up to me, “What are you doing?????”
–”I cannot leave my station. There is obviously some kind of emergency, and I MUST be here waiting for Carol when she returns. Fetch my shoes and suitcase, please.” I could not, would not, fail my hero. And, D graciously went and got my stuff against the far wall for me.
Carol returned within the next 5 minutes, and thanked me profusely. She needed something very important from the press room, and was very worried it would be locked before she could get up there, and because the signs at the escalator prohibited suitcases, she was in a panic on how get upstairs, but not violate the rules. Then, she said, after she left the suitcase with me, she saw that everybody was using their suitcases on the escalator, and, she probably needn’t have worried about the big sign. But, like anybody conscientious, she was trying to follow the rules.
As she thanked me and rushed away, Sara, standing next to me, giggled, “Did you just bow???”
Evidently, without realizing it, I did bow, as I told Carol she was very welcome. Well, she is the Queen of Crafts after all, and, while I would have loved to have gotten another photo, I really was, quite simply, honored to have been of service. (grin!)

What…no picture of you ‘holding the bag’? Come on, Daven, you dropped the ball on this one. I would love to see what Julie looked like there with her mentor, Carol Duvall. I did get a chuckle from the article, though. Julie, you are a great storyteller. Thanks for being our eyes at CHA.

You certainly know how to tell a story so I can “see it” in my mind’s eye! That was great! Well, at least you got to speak, if even for a little while. I’m still chuckling! Too good!!!!!!

WOW! Isn’t it wonderful that you got to help someone and it was Miss Duvall of all people? You should be very proud of yourself to have had the sense of mind to reconize HER stress. Your A W E S O M E!!

Oh Julie I would have done the same thing (bowing) I mean she is so special and to meet her oh my gosh, did you touch her, shake her hand, did you wash your hand? Oh well these are such special moments, wouldn’t it be great if someone actually got your picture bowing!!!

What an exciting brush with greatness! She must have seen something trustworthy in your eyes - leaving her things with a stranger. This also reveals something about her down-to-earth nature in spite of her celebrity status. Fun story. Of course, I tell DH and he says *Carol who?*
